Employee Spotlight: Brad Sigmund
March 15, 2018
Our Employee Spotlight Series will take you behind the scenes to meet the people who make up Chula Vista Resort. Get to know our amazing team and how they have been a part of the Chula Vista journey.
This segment of our Employee Spotlight will feature the General Manager of Kaminski’s Chop House, Brad Sigmund. Kaminski’s is a three-time award-winning restaurant and their delicious table side, Mashed Potatoes Fully Loaded, was recently named in the top five of Travel Wisconsin’s “15 Stops for Wisconsin Comfort Food.”
1. What Is Your Position At Chula Vista Resort? How has this position changed since you first started at Chula?
I started at Kaminski’s in 2010 part-time bartending. From there I became the bar manager. This was when I fell in love with wine. From this position, I became a restaurant Swing Manager, and I had the opportunity to work in several of the dining outlets at Chula Vista. The opportunity came knocking again when the General Manager position opened at Kaminski’s in December 2012, and I have held that position ever since.
2. Why did you first choose to work for Chula and why do you stay?
A former coworker was serving at Kaminski’s, and that was the main reason I started. I remember coming into the restaurant for the first time and seeing the lounge with all of its high-end liquors. I was pretty intimidated, to say the least. Over the next few months, I would study constantly so that I wouldn’t make any mistakes. The staff was very welcoming and always willing to help me. I just loved the camaraderie and level of professionalism that the staff displayed.
3. What is your favorite part about working at Chula Vista Resort?
I’m a big history buff, and Chula has been woven into the history of the Wisconsin Dells, even before the Kaminski family purchased the resort in 1951. I try to imagine what it was like “back in the day.” I love hearing stories from long-time guests and staff.
4. What has surprised you most about working here?
Chula is where I met my wonderful wife, Krissy. I definitely did not expect that while interviewing at the Chop House. It has been amazing how the staff here has become like family to me.
5. What do you wish other people knew about Chula Vista Resort?
[I wish people knew] the history of the property and the Kaminski family. Most people think that we are just a large corporation, when in fact, Chula Vista is a family-owned business. It is exciting to not only see the past of Chula but also the future – it is a constant evolution.
6. What piece of advice would you give to a new employee?
Walk around the property and get to know other outlets and its employees. Ask questions. Start up a conversation with our guests. Learn about our history and respect the journey the resort has taken.
7. What accomplishments at work are you most proud of?
I love my job. Kaminski’s Chop House has a tradition of excellent food, service and atmosphere. Many of the staff I have worked alongside for years. I get to share awesome experiences with guests each day. How can I not be proud of that?
